Homeschooling in Wyoming?

Homeschool Wyoming (formerly HOW) has been supporting homeschoolers in Wyoming since 1996. Homeschool Wyoming recommends and advocates for homeschooling that is parent directed, and privately (not publicly) funded.  While there are other publicly funded "at home" education options, we believe parent directed, privately funded homeschooling gives families freedom to create a customized educational worldview for each child.

Thankfully, Wyoming is a homeschool friendly state, but there here are still a few things that you need to know to get started on the right path.

Getting Started

A brief overview of everything you'll need to get started homeschooling.

Letter of Intent

Wyoming law requires homeschooling families to submit a letter of intent annually. Find a sample to submit to your district.

Withdraw from Public School

If your child has been enrolled in their local school district, you'll need to notify the district that your child is now a homeschooler.

Wyoming Homeschool Law

What does the Law Require?

A home-based educational program must meet the requirements of a Basic Academic Educational Program, which is defined in State Statute 21-4-101(a)(vi)  "Basic academic educational program" is one that provides a sequentially progressive curriculum of fundamental instruction in reading, writing, mathematics, civics, history, literature and science. These curriculum requirements do not require any private school or home-based educational program to include in its curriculum any concept, topic or practice in conflict with its religious doctrines or to exclude from its curriculum any concept, topic or practice consistent with its religious doctrines;"
