Suggested Checklist for Those Beginning to Homeschool

Do your research before your talking, especially if you are pulling your child out of a state school (public or charter).

Begin your research with your state law(s) concerning home education.

Where do I Start Looking for Information?

  1. Begin with prayer for guidance from God.
  2. Check out these websites and their links:
        www.hslda.org
        www.teachinghome.com
        www.home-school.com
        www.homeschooldigest.com
  3. Ask for HOW's (Homeschoolers Of Wyoming) Introductory Pack.
  4. Attend the annual state convention to hear speakers, meet other home educators, and view curriculum and support materials.
  5. Visit your local Public Library for books and magazines on home education. Many libraries also have a vertical file on home schooling.
  6. Contact your local support group to see what resources they have. Ask members what they use and why.
Become a member of H.O.W., subscribe to H.O.W. News, and join your local support group.

Research and select your core curriculum components.

Join HSLDA. If you have become a member of HOW you may receive a discount on your HSLDA membership.

Your local support group can help you contact the local school district in compliance with the law.

If you are withdrawing your student(s) from a school, now is the time to do it. Request their transcripts at the same time.
