Parental Rights Update
There are now 129 Co-Sponsors in the House of Representatives (a gain of 1 from last month) and 6 Co-Sponsors in the Sentate for the Parental Rights Amendment. Email Senator Enzi and Senator Barasso again and ask them to support S.J. Res 16, the Parental Rights Amendment. Evidently they didn't hear from enough people the last two months . Read the article this month on: U.S. to Stand Alone

HSLDA Prayer Request
Please pray and write a letter for this Swedish homeschooling family who will not be seeing their only child this Christmas. This family is now facing losing permanent custody of their son who just turned 7 this past fall. He was taken in June, and they have extremely limited visiting time with him. Pray that he is returned soon. My heart breaks for this family and their little boy, but God's arm is not too short to save. Let's lift up our prayers and also take written action. Contact information for where to send letters is in the first link below, which also tells their story. Take a minute from your holidays and make your letter to their government your gift to this family this Christmas. If you get this email after the holidays, send your letter then. Let's do for this family what we hope others would do for each of our families, if we ever faced this situation. I will put a sample letter below links for use if you like.

I don't know what your feelings are on New Year's Resolutions but I wanted to give you two different perspectives on them:
First, I think they are a good idea. We need times in our lives that we set goals, do some planning and try to improve. We need to set family goals, personal goals, work goals, spiritual goals. How else can we measure progress if we don't have goals and deadlines. I prefer to look at the word resolve and try and take that to heart. If I resolve to do something then I make a commitment to do it. That doesn't mean that I accomplish all my goals but I strive to do them. For instance last year one of my goals was to read 52 books, one a week. I read 43. Not quite 52 but a whole lot more than I would have read if I didn't set that goal.
Another viewpoint is one I read in an article yesterday. This author didn't like resolutions at all. He basically felt that a resolution was a commitment made before God and that if you didn't accomplish it, as many of us don't, then we were sinning against God. So it was better not to make that "oath" rather than to break it and sin against God.
For me that's a little too legalistic. I can set goals to read more Scripture this year or to memorize more verses but I don't think I am letting God down if I set out to memorize 52 verses and memorized 30. I would view that as being 30 more than I already knew. The same with losing weight or any other goals or resolutions we set. I'm no worse off for trying.
So as we are just a few days into 2010, set some goals for your life and your family. You may not meet them all but you will be able to look back at the end of the year and will be thankful for the journey.
Kids: Liability or Blessing
The apostle Peter warns believers to live in a sober state of evaluation because our mortal enemy tirelessly seeks our ruin (1 Peter 5:8). Though his hurtful schemes are manifold, one of the most effective weapons in the devil’s arsenal against the Christian is worldly thinking. The war for values and behavior always begins with the battle for the mind. more...

There are two upcoming events sponsored by WyWatch that I think every Wyoming citizen ought to participate in. Back in July I proposed an idea of families gathering in Cheyenne on Feb. 8th to show our support for traditional marriage after the marriage amendment was defeated last year. The prayer rally on Sat. Feb. 6th is a much better idea and I am asking families to join me in Cheyenne that day. I know it will be a great sacrifice for many families to travel to Cheyenne and brave the cold and roads in February but sacrifice is often necessary. If you can make it to Cheyenne please contact me with your name, city and number of people coming. Promote this in your Churches and homeschool groups and let's get thousands to gather in Cheyenne on Feb. 6th. -- Todd Smith
40 Days of Prayer Event: We are asking Pastors and churches to participate in a state-wide coordinated effort to pray for our upcoming legislative session, the state of Wyoming, and for our nations starting on December 31, 2009 and ending on February 8th, 2010 (the first day of the legislative session). We will be using a devotional published by Thomas Nelson published titled “If My People… to help citizens across Wyoming feel comfortable spending a few minutes each day praying for our leaders. The books are available through our organization at a dramatically reduced cost.
LEGISLATIVE PRAYER CARDS: We have legislative prayer cards available for Pastors to pass out to their congregation in order to encourage Christians to be praying for the Wyoming state leaders. The cards measure 3 ½ x 4 ½ inches. They come in a set of 90.
1st Annual Legislative Prayer Rally: We are organizing a prayer rally at the state capitol building front steps for Saturday, February 6th, at 1:30 PM in order to provide encouragement, uplifting prayers to the God-fearing true statesmen and women of the legislature. We will also spend some time praying for the state leaders and the nation.
So many of our God-fearing, dedicated servants who have been elected to the state legislature are discouraged and need our support. It helps them to know that the citizens of Wyoming support them in their efforts to stand for life, marriage, and other Judeo-Christian Principles. So many of these strong leaders have consistently asked our organization, “Where is the Church?” and they are right. Where is the Church? We should be taking a stand and letting the legislators know the will of the people. Will you join us on February 6th, 2010?
