Parental Rights Update
Have you had a chance to get the word out this summer about the threats to parental rights and the solution...a Parental Rights Amendment? Last week I rewatched "The Child" dvd and it struck me that I should be stressing to people I talk with that an amendment would not be a change, but instead it is to preserve what has always been assumed: that fit parents make decisions for their children regarding education, medical needs, religion, etc. Government is stepping in more and more often, not allowing for normal family relationships.
Keep telling your family and friends about this and ask them to sign the petition at parental But especially between August 8th and September 17th make an attempt to speak, in person if possible, with Senators Enzi and Barrasso. They should be back in Wyoming. This link will give you some tips of what to say and brochures.
Thank you for your work toward ensuring our grandchildren are allowed to raise their children as we have been.

Courageous the movie is coming to Riverton and Gillette, Wyoming the opening weekend Sept. 30-Oct. 2. God is calling fathers to rise up and fulfill their God-given role as fathers. If you want more information or are interested in purchasing tickets for the Riverton viewing contact Todd Smith at 307-840-1630. For the Gillette viewing contact Amy Puetz 307-464-0266.

It's That Time of Year Again
Todd Smith, HOW President
I hope everyone had a great summer and enjoyed family and fun in the great State of Wyoming and beyond. As we move into August of course it is time to really start thinking about the new school year ahead of us. Now is the time to make plans, get that curriculum ordered and set some goals for great learning.
It is also the time of year to begin to think about reporting to the local school district. I usually get a big packet from our local district in August with several forms and papers to fill out. Last year I think I would have had to file 28 pages if I would have followed that method. I encourage you to not use forms that come from the local school districts but instead use some of the resources that HOW and HSLDA have put together. Remember that the school district only receives your information on students and curriculum they do not have the authority to approve or disapprove what you are doing. And remember that less is more. The more people fill out the large packets the more red tape we as homeschoolers have to deal with.
Here is the link to the form from HOW.  This letter of intent simply states what you are bound by law to report. Better yet if you are not a member of HSLDA join and use their form. Here is the link for that form. You are not allowed to use this form unless you are an HSLDA member but I can tell you from my own experience that once you start using a form from your lawyer the school district pretty much leave you alone.
So donít forget to file and I hope and pray you have a great school year.

HOW Annual Board Meeting

Dino Dig in Wyoming
By Amy Puetz
Itís always fun to get a flier or magazine in the mail that tells about Christian events. It is even more exciting when one of those events happens in our state! One of those events took place this last June out on the prairies of Wyoming. A group of creationists from the Southwestern Adventist University come each year to do a dinosaur dig near Newcastle, Wyoming.
It was truly an adventure to go out on the prairie and dig for dinosaur bones. There were so many bones found that I felt overwhelmed. My niece and I found a dinosaur tooth that belonged to a carnivorous dino, we like to think that it was a T-Rex.
I first learned about this dig from my dad who used to work as an oil field pumper close to where the dig was. Then several years later I ran across an article in the Answers Magazine that told more about the dig. You can read the article here
The dig is usually during the month of June. If you are interested in learning more please visit this website. It will probably be later this year or maybe next year before they will update this page so check back often.
The picture above shows some of the larger bones that were uncovered at the dig. Below is the picture of the tooth we found.
It was exciting to experience such an amazing adventure right here in our own state. It would be even more fun to see fellow homeschoolers from around the state volunteer to help next year.
