Back to (a focused time of) School|
President HOW, Todd Smith
The summer months often provide a break from the fall, winter, and spring focus of academics, but many home educators learn early on that school is not just a matter of imparting facts to our children but it is a way of life. Many opportunities become educational and when we factor in the primary job of bringing up our children in the fear and admonition of the Lord almost everything is educational. Yet we all know that as the world settles into a more formal time of schooling in the fall most of us follow suit and set some additional goals and try and restructure the time we focus on academics in a more formal manner.
So for homeschoolers it is not necessarily "back to school" but back to that time of year when we hear from the local school districts and need to comply with Wyoming State Statute. My recommendation every year is that families simply use the HSLDA form for Wyoming. No more, no less. If you are not a member of HSLDA yet become a member. With decades of experience in fighting legal battles around our nation HSLDA has the expertise to remind us that less is more in reporting. The local school districts may ask for more information and send out additional forms but to preserve homeschooling freedoms in Wyoming it is helpful if families use the HSLDA model.
Secondly HOW is in need of additional board members. Our numbers are growing thin and we need more involved couples in Wyoming to help continue to preserve and defend home education. If you are interested or have questions about being a board member please contact me via telephone or email through the contact page of our website. I would love to give you more information or send you a board application.
Enjoy the final days of summer and happy planning for a great year of schooling.

The Best Kind of Socialization
One question we still hear is, "What about socialization?" Read HSLDA President, J. Michael Smith's thoughts:

WYOMING PRIMARY ELECTION is Tuesday, August 21. One terrific, and not surprising, newsbyte is that homeschoolers are good citizens. They pay attention to the issues, learn about the candidates, and they vote. Sometimes they run for office. You may be interested in Brian Rey’s research brochure, "Homeschooling Grows Up" for more information.
Homeschoolers of Wyoming cannot recommend candidates, but of course we would all wish to vote for those who will protect our liberty to homeschool and raise our children according to biblical values. There are many Wyoming family websites which do have candidate endorsements. Again, VOTE AUGUST 21ST.
WE ARE THANKFUL that the United States Senate did not yet bring to the floor a vote on the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (UN CRPD). This treaty, as all UN treaties, should not be ratified by the United States because of the loss of US sovereignty. That is all we should need to know and that alone should stop every Senator no matter the party, from voting for any one of the treaties. We thank God in November and remember the Pilgrims and Puritans coming to America for religious freedom. In July we remember the fight for Independence from a tyrannical king. In November and May we remember the sacrifices of our soldiers so that we may go to church openly, and we may have Bibles in our homes. Why would we mock this heritage and this blessing by giving away our liberty to the United Nations?
Additionally, the UN CRPD will take from parents and give to the government, the right to make decisions for their children if they have an IDEA plan. The treaty also expands government funded abortions.
Senators are on break from Washington D.C. in order to spend time in their home states. Contact Senator Barrasso at one of the local offices asking him to WITHDRAW his support of this dangerous treaty.
Contact Senator Enzi at one of his local offices asking him to vote no on this treaty and all UN treaties when they are brought to the Senate floor.

HOW is a ministry to Wyoming Homeschool Families. As a ministry we want to uplift one another in prayer when we are able. Please let us know of any prayer requests and we will include them on our prayer page. You may send your prayer requests via our contact form. We will keep them posted each month until you update us on a situation so please stay in contact.
Please spend a few minutes today uplifting these people in prayer:
