Walking In The Promises
The 2010 HOW Convention will be May 7th & 8th in Douglas!  Our Theme is: Walking In The Promises and the Convention will feature, Marcelo and Valerie Tolopilo of Walking In the Promises ministry.  Check out their website here.
Please note our Convention has moved up one week to the first weekend in May.  Grab your 2010 calendar now, or jot yourself a note and make plans to attend the next convention.  You won't want to miss it!

HOW Needs YOU!
Here are two opportunities for you to be involved:

HOW is looking for Homeschool Groups that would be interested in hosting the Mother's Tea and the Father's Time at the 2010 Convention.  If you would like to host by providing snacks and setting up a table to host please contact us.

Help us build HOW's Membership by offering a gift of Memership to another family this month.  For only $20 you get all this: A $20 discount for joining HSLDA, Excerpt from The Growing Homeschool e-book from Values Driven Family, Excerpt from Defeating Depression audio seminar from Values Driven Family, New Testament Timeline in Stick Figures, Teacher Book e-book from Grapevine StudiesSelect Poems by Anne Bradstreet e-book from Amy PuetzGetting It All Done e-book by Marilyn Boyer,  and a discount on next year's Convention Registration.  Each one of us knows a Homeschool family that isn't a member of HOW.  If each one reading this pays for one membership in June you can help us double our membership!  Thanks.

Parental Rights Update
There are now 93 Congressional Co-Sponsors of the Parental Rights Amendment.  Our own Cynthia Lummis is one of them.  And from an article in the Riverton Ranger this week she is a staunch defender of Marriage between one man and one woman as well.  Find some time to write her to say thank you for serving Wyoming.
If you haven't been reading on the Parental Rights website so that you really understand what is at stake you need to click here and start reading.  This is one of the fundamental battles of our day.
And take a moment to look at the Father's Day Bulletin Insert and ask your Pastor if you can get the word out at church.

Upcoming Events
We have 55 Contestants registered for the Riverton Contest for the first annual Bible Bee on Sept. 12th.  The kids are busy memorizing verses for the competition.  They are studying 6 books of the Bible and working on over 350 verses.  We have contestants from Gilette, Laramie, Pinedale, Sheridan, Buffalo, Riverton and Lander.  Check out the Bible Bee Website for more information.

Controversial Homosexual Activist

If you have been contemplating whether or not to send your children to public school, consider this new appointee...This is an excert of an email from the Family Research Council.  It has been edited to protect the readers.  And even with the edits you'll find this artcile quite disturbing:
We expected liberal appointments to executive positions in an Obama administration, but it was still startling to learn that Education Secretary Arne Duncan had actually appointed Kevin Jennings, founder of the Gay, Lesbian, and Straight Education Network (GLSEN), to be Assistant Deputy Secretary for the Office of Safe and Drug Free Schools. GLSEN is the chief national advocacy group promoting policies to force affirmation of homosexuality in schools, beginning in kindergarten. Jennings wrote the foreword for a book, "Queering Elementary Education," (Edited for content) He has spoken publicly about a high school student he once counseled who was in a sexual relationship with an older man--yet Jennings never reported this abuse to the authorities, the school, or the child's parents. GLSEN makes much of eliminating name-calling and bullying toward students believed to be homosexual--but Jennings does not set a very good example in how he treats those who disagree with him. In a speech in a New York church in 2000, he declared, "We have to quit being afraid of the religious right. . . . I'm trying not to say, (Edited for content)which is what I want to say, because I don't care what they think! [audience laughter] Drop dead!" This is completely inconsistent with the tone President Obama has said he wants to set, and Jennings' appointment should be withdrawn.

Thank You!

Thank you for making the 2009 Convention a great success.  Many thanks to all the families who sacrificed time and finances to come to Douglas.  We had a great time!
Rick & Marilyn Boyer inspired us to keep doing this crazy thing we do called Homeschooling.  There were so many things that stuck in my mind but one of my favorites was Rick saying, "The only problem with Youth Groups is that they group youths."  He went on to say, "Think about it.  Who were you with when you experimented with smoking or stealing or getting into trouble?  You weren't with your grandmother.  You were with other kids your own age."
If you have never read Rick's book, "The Socialization Trap", click no the link to order it here.  It is a fantastic read and only a $9 investment that will pay great dividends.
I hope you were inspired and that you have already marked your calendar for next May!

Kids: Liability or Blessing
By MarceloTolopilo
The apostle Peter warns believers to live in a sober state of evaluation because our mortal enemy tirelessly seeks our ruin (1 Peter 5:8).[1] Though his hurtful schemes are manifold, one of the most effective weapons in the devil’s arsenal against the Christian is worldly thinking. The war for values and behavior always begins with the battle for the mind.
