Marked Your 2010 Calendar Yet?
If not grab one (easy to do with electronic devices like cellphones and computers) and mark down May 7th & 8th for the 2010 HOW Convention in Douglas!  Have you checked out our speakers website yet?  If not do that here and catch up on some summer reading.  Each of us desires to Walk in The Promises of God and this next Convention will help you do just that.  It's never too late to plan.  Start inviting friends now.

Are You the One?
I heard a story several years ago in a sermon at Real Life Ministries in Post Falls, Idaho.  The Pastor there related a story of a church member who was in the hospital.  I don't remember the gentleman's name but I do remember his faith and his character.  This particular man had a lot of health issues and was often in the hospital.  But instead of how most of us would act and be discouraged about it, this man had a sign above his bed on the wall that said: Are You the One?
When people would enter this man's room they would often ask what the sign meant.  The man would say, "I'm glad you asked.  I believe that God put me in this hospital to minister to someone here and to tell them about Jesus.  Are you the one that needs to hear about the Gospel?"
Instead of viewing illness as a setback or discouraging this man viewed it as a ministry.  In similar fashion HOW is a ministry to the Homeschooling families in Wyoming and as we mentioned last month we can use your help.  Don't wait for others to act.  Don't think that one person can't make a difference, you are the one that needs to respond and be involved.  Last month I mentioned two ways we need your help.  We still need that help so don't let another month slip by.
HOW is looking for Homeschool Groups that would be interested in hosting the Mother's Tea and the Father's Time at the 2010 Convention.  If you would like to host by providing snacks and setting up a table to host please contact us.

Help us build HOW's Membership by offering a gift of Memership to another family this month.  Each one of us knows a Homeschool family that isn't a member of HOW.  If each one reading this pays for one membership in July you can help us double our membership!  And don't forget all the goodies that go along with membership.

Parental Rights Update
There are now 105 Co-sponsors in the House and 2 Co-sponsors in the Senate.  Right now Wyoming's Representative is a co-sponsor but our Senators are not.  Take some time this month to make a phone call or send an email to our Senators asking them to co-sponsor this critical legislation.
And read about 20 things you need to know about the UN Convention on the rights of the child.

Recommended Resource for July
A Clarion Call to Protect Your Home by Marcelo Tolopilo.

A Clarion Call to Protect Your Home in a World at Enmity with God and the Family He Loves is a must read for all Christian parents. The God-ordained institution of the family is under siege, particularly the Christian family. In this volume, Marcelo Tolopilo sounds a clarion call to families. He identifies three key areas marked out by the enemy for attack: the marriage union, the parent/child relationship, and the innocence of children. Special attention and application is directed to the critical relationships between husband and wife, parents and children. The war for your family rages. Are you engaged in the conflict to protect your home?
Also includes The Duties of Parents by J. C. Ryle. In his typical pastoral fashion, J.C. Ryle delivers timeless, sage biblical advice for moms and dads in all eras. The language has been updated to reflect modern usage while preserving the winsome style of this tenderhearted, nineteenth century parish pastor.

Always Looking For Wisdom
By Todd Smith
Marriage is one of the issues that I believe Wyoming has to deal with in a definite way sooner or later.  Earlier this year when our legislators in the Wyoming House decided that we the voters couldn't vote on this critical issue it got me thinking on how to respond.

First Marriage is one of the bedrock foundations of society.  When marriage is trampled on other things surely follow.  Marriage is also the word picture God uses to describe the relationship between Christ and His Bride, the Church.  Marriage is sacred.  Right now we have a State Statute that defines marriage as between one man and one woman in Wyoming but we also recognize all legal marriages from other States.  And we know that other States don't view marriage the same as we do.
So what do we do to protect marriage in Wyoming?  My first thought was to try and get active in some way.  In my blog back in May I issued a challenge for Christian families to join me in Cheyenne on Feb. 10, 2010 for the opening of the Wyoming Legislative session.  Let's tell our legislators that we want to vote on a Constitutional Amendment.  Let's show up in the middle of winter and fight for marriage.  That might be a good option, but there are additional hurdles to overcome in a budget session of the Legislature.

Second idea,  35 members of the House voted against this bill to allow us to vote on marriage in Wyoming.  Here is the list of representatives that voted for and against that bill.  Perhaps we can work in Wyoming to replace the 35 representatives that voted against traditional marriage.  Maybe God is calling you to take a stand and run for office.  I personally think this vote should be the beginning of the end for the political career of each of these 35 representatives.  If you can't stand for foundational principles of family in society, why would I trust you with any other issue.  Here is the list of how the vote turned out.
HJ0017  ACTION(S):  H Failed CoW; Indef Postponed                                                       VOTE RECORDED: 2/6/2009 12:17:49 PM  VOTE ID:  5619

Representative(s): Anderson, R., Brechtel, Buchanan, Cannady, Davison, Edmonds, Hallinan, Harshman, Harvey, Jaggi, Lockhart, Lubnau, Madden, McKim, Mercer, Miller, Peasley, Petersen, Philp, Quarberg, Semlek, Shepperson, Simpson, Stubson, Teeters

Representative(s): Bagby, Barbuto, Berger, Blake, Bonner, Brown, Byrd, Carson, Childers, Cohee, Connolly, Craft, Diercks, Esquibel, K., Gilmore, Gingery, Goggles, Hales, Hammons, Illoway, Jorgensen, Landon, McOmie, Meyer, Millin, Moniz, Patton, Pedersen, Roscoe, Steward, Thompson, Throne, Wallis, Zwonitzer, Dn., Zwonitzer, Dv.

Ayes: 25 Nays: 35 Excused: 0 Absent: 0 Conflict: 0

Third, some have suggested petition to either change the loophole by amending the State Statute.  I'm not a lawyer but I think activist judges have overturned statutes in other States on the issue of marriage and an Amendment to the Wyoming Constitution is the only way to prevent that.
If you have any ideas on how to fight for marriage in Wyoming, I'd love to hear them.  I'm sure it will need to be a combination of many things.

Website Outage
The Homeschoolers of Wyoming website will be down for a couple hours of maintenance on July 31st beginning at 11:45PM.  It will be back online in a couple of hours.  Should only affect you night owls who like to surf the net late.

Turning Emotional Pain into....
By MarceloTolopilo

Some of you who read this article have wayward children and/or grandchildren. My heart goes out to you. Over the years I have discussed this issue with many heartbroken parents and grandparents. Their tears affirm that there are few things as painful and disconcerting for Christian adults than the open wound of prodigal children. If you find yourself in this troubled place, I pray your grief will continually engage your parental love to seek your sonís and/or daughterís spiritual wellbeing. It is, to be sure, a painful pursuit but it is one that cannot be ignored. The stakes are eternal and the potential windfall indescribably joyful.  Read more....
