Welcome Back To School!
We hope everyone had a great summer and a good start to the new school year. If you or your local group have any information you would like included in the H.O.W. News, please send it to us here. We are glad to look at including any homeschool relevant material, but do reserve the right to edit any article. If you (or your child) are interested in writing a "how-to" article or series of articles, we'd love to see them! We also welcome any writer who would like to try being a "journalist" for the News. Please help us make the H.O.W. news interesting and useful for everyone.

2014 Convention
Friday and Saturday - June 6th & 7th - in the Sheridan Area!
We are in the early planning stages of our 2014 convention. Plan now to attend, and watch the eNews as we'll be posting information as we get it!

Young Entrepreneurs
This coming convention will be featuring a new item we hope will be a benefit to everyone.
We want to encourage homeschoolers who are striving to establish a business (up to age 24). In addition to the vendors hall, we hope to have different homeschool businesses showcasing their commercial offerings. Do you have a product or service you offer? We would like you to present this for all the homeschoolers to see, challenge them and hopefully bring you some more business!
The entrepreneurs will get a space to showcase much like the vendors do. The cost for a space will be just $15. Click HERE for an application.
We hope to see a lot of young homeschool businesses this coming June!

Talent Show participants needed!
HOW will be featuring a talent show on Friday evening of the 2014 convention. This will be an opportunity for homeschoolers to put into practice the public speaking and performing skills they've learned throughout the year.
We would like all those families or individuals interested in participating to sign up. The performance will need to be limited to a maximum of five minutes in length, to allow time for all to participate.
Please print out an application HERE, then fill in the information and mail to the address included on the form.
We look forward to a pleasant time of profitable homeschool contributions. See you there!

H.O.W. Board Members
H.O.W. has recently had an election and has appointed Drew and Melanie Farkas as president, Jake & Casey Cheser as Secretary and Vendor Coordinator.  Clint & Cindy Beaver have retained their position as Treasurer.  Darrell and Loreen Farkas are in charge of communications and the newsletter.
We have three openings on the Board. If you would be interested in joining the Board, call 307-286-1090 for more information. Please help us keep homeschooling strong in Wyoming!

We Need County Contacts!
Would you like to be a county contact?

The responsibilities are few: Attending the convention – this is the only mandatory meeting of the whole year. Other than that, you need to be available. That's what a contact is all about. Responding to all calls and emails from HOW and other interested parties. You would need to promote the convention in your county, by getting it into newsletters and online. That's it! It's not a hard job, but it is necessary.

We really need at least one contact in each county. Right now the following counties are available: Big Horn, Goshen, Natrona, Sheridan, Sublette, and Washakie. Other counties need alternates, so if you are interested and live in another county, please step up!

If you are concerned about keeping home schooling in Wyoming going strong, please think and pray about becoming a county contact. Please call 307-286-1090 for more information. We need you!

Legislative Update
School districts across the state are scurrying to get up and running in using Common Core Standards for Math and English, which WY State School Board and the Governor signed onto a year ago.  Forty-six states have signed onto common core, yet some such as Indiana are putting on the brakes.

If you are deeply concerned about English standards, imagine the Science standards. more...
