Track & Field Day
Greetings to Homeschooling Families of Wyoming!
As I watch a foot of snow fall on the ground I have faith that spring is coming and it will be warm again, hopefully in time for our track meet, May 30th. Once again we have to change the venue of our meet due to the infield of the Kelly Walsh track being closed to all activity until August. We will be holding the meet at the Natrona County High School track, located on the corner of Ash and Collins. From I-25 you would take the Center Street exit and head south (towards the mountain). Turn right on Collins and it will be on the corner of Ash and Collins. From 20/26 turn right on Poplar, then left on Collins. From 220, turn left at CY and Wy. Blvd., right on Fort Caspar Rd. (before you cross the river) and follow it to Ash. (Ft. Caspar turns into Collins. Or you can take 220, CY Avenue, all the way to Ash street and turn left.)
Track day is for home schooled children ages 5-18. All children ages 5-9 will get a certificate of achievement with a blue ribbon stapled to it for participating in the field events. They will get ribbons for 1st - 4th place in the races. Children ages 10 - 17 will get ribbons for 1st - 4th place in all events. Children will be expected to compete in all events for their age group unless an exception is requested for special circumstances. Boys will compete against boys and girls against girls.
Once again the Boys and Girls Club of Casper is sponsoring us so we can use the facilities. I have simplified the registration form. No child can participate without this form filled out. This free membership only lasts one day. If you want to join the Boys and Girls Club of Casper, you can have a one year membership for $10 and be able to participate in all their activities
This track has turf so pets are not allowed inside the fenced area of the field. There is also no shade, so if anyone has shade tents that you would be willing to let me use for the drink area and registration, please let me know. There is no bleacher seating so bring your lawn chairs and shading for you too.
We have found that lunchtime is a great time for families to fellowship. We will be running open three-legged races and family tug-of-wars during this time also. Even though there are restaurants close by, you may miss some of the activities by leaving. Amy Gerlock is offering a hamburger or hotdog lunch with extras for $4-$6. She is also selling breakfast for $3-$4. Please indicate how many lunches you would be buying on the registration form. You will pay for them when you arrive. As always you are welcome to bring your own lunch.
If one member from each family would volunteer to help, our jobs would be much easier to organize the 50+ volunteers needed to make our meet run quickly and smoothly. Thank you for stating on your form which area you would like to volunteer for.
